Getting to Know: Leigh - 20 Questions
Q: When did you begin to show interest in hair and makeup, or beauty in general. What first inspired you?
A: From a very young age I’ve been interested in all things beauty. Being a second generation stylist, I was raised in a salon environment and by a mother who was always very well put together. When I was two years old, I broke into her lipstick stash and applied my favorite shade perfectly. My mom said thats when she knew I was destined for a future in beauty. My mom inspired me first, and continues to do so.
Q: Name your style in one word, both personally and professionally:
A: Professionally I would say: clean/classic. Personal: edgy/minimal
Q: If you could go back in time and give your younger self advice, what would you say?
A: I think its important to enjoy being young. I spent a lot of time trying to grow up and be “someone,” when I should have just taken it easy. I would tell younger me to enjoy it and stop wishing away my precious time.
Q: Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing with your spare time?
A: Lately I’ve been getting back into photography, a hobby I used to delve into quite a bit growing up. I also LOVE going to concerts and traveling.
Q: What is your favorite part of being on the Daniellestyle team?
A: I love how humble and willing to learn we all are. We all strive to further our education and help each other grow as stylists. Plus, we all have a pretty awesome sense of humor so days in the salon get really fun and funny. When you love what you do and who you work with, you never feel like you’re working.
Q: Have any secret talents?
A: I can walk on the very tips of my toes, does that count?
Q: What is your favorite season?
A: Fall or Winter, I can never decide!
Q: If you could choose one super-power what would you choose?
A: Teleportation, hands down!!! The ability to be anywhere without travel taking any time? Count me in!
Q: Whats inspiring you right now?
A: My team members, the stories I hear from my brides, the local music scene and the photographers involved in it.
Q: If you could be anywhere in the world right at this very minute, where would you be?
A: I think I’d like to be sitting in a Jacuzzi, drinking champagne, outside a cabin in the mountains during snowfall with my boyfriend next to me. Sounds like absolute perfection!
Q: What are you known for both professionally and personally?
A: Professionally I’m definitely known for being the girl with crazy hair on the DS team haha! Personally I’m the honest friend with the weirdest laugh.
Q: What is something people would be surprised to know about you?
A: I LOVE COUNTRY MUSIC! Seriously, I know all the words and I listen to it all the time. Most people are shocked when I sing along while on a wedding ahah. I definitely don’t look like someone who would listen to country.
Q: If you could hangout with one person alive or dead, excluding relatives, who would it be?
A: I would really love to spend a day with Lady Gaga just talking, she has a very interesting mind from what I can tell in interviews. I think it would be pretty cool to talk to a serial killer for a few hours, I’m super into true crime. Post Malone would probably be pretty fun too, he parties.
Q: Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert?
A: Introvert for sure.
Q: What are you most curious about in life?
A: I find psychology and social sciences extremely interesting. I like to try to see things from other perspectives, and see why people are the way they are and what lead them to being that way. If I had to pick something tangible I’d say the ocean or space, so much unexplored territory.
Q: What motivates you?
A: Watching my art improve. The only competition I believe in is competition with myself. I always want to do things better than I did before, to be better than I was yesterday. When I see and feel myself improve, it keeps me motivated and inspired.
Q: Who is your celebrity crush?
A: Jason Momoa. He has the looks and the personality to go with it! Total package in my opinion.
Q: What travel destination is high on your list?
A: Since I was little I’ve wanted to visit Egypt, I’m obsessed with the history. I would also love to take three weeks or so in Europe and just pub hop through all the different countries and try their native beers. I love stuff like that.
Q: What would you like to be remembered for?
A: Honestly, I’m not very concerned about being remembered. Anyone that survives my death is encouraged to move on quickly. I strive to be fun, honest, and there for my loved ones when they need me, but other than that, I would hate for anyone to dwell over me. I know all too well what its like to be tortured over someone’s passing, I don’t wish that upon anyone.
Q: What trends in hair and makeup would you like to see disappear?
A: Wedding hairstyles that involve braids. I won’t get into why, but I’m tired of seeing it haha. In makeup, I’m so over the extremely dewey skin trend. Not only does it not last on the skin, but it can tend to look oily and unbecoming.
